In 2024, furnishing of governors’ lodge gulped N500.5 million.
The state spent another N5.5 billion to purchase SUVs, Prado Jeeps, Hyundai Elantra between January and September 2024.
Another sum of N9.6 billion was spent on buying Prado jeeps, Hyundai Elantra for ministries, departments and agencies.
The prioritisation of renovations of government lodge, residence is despite the state having 1.9 million poor persons per details on the multidimensional poverty index of the National Bureau of Statistics.
It is also despite the fact that 36% of children are denied access to education, 82% of households in the state lack access to sanitary facilities, 81% of households in the state lack access to clean drinking water.
There have been concerns on priority spendings by states especially amid stated poor economic resources in terms of revenue.
Many states heavily rely on loans to fund their budget while also relying on federally distributed revenue.
As of June 2024, Cross River State owes N155.4 billion domestically, the state also owes another $210 million externally.
The reliance on loans usually lead to high debt servicing figures which are blamed also in part for poor developments in different states.
