Customs collaborating with other agencies to fight hunger in Nigeria — CG

The Nigeria Customs Service has said that the service is collaborating with other Federal Government agencies in the fight against hunger in the country.

The Comptroller General of the NCS, Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi stated this while briefing newsmen in Kano on Friday.

Adeniyi, who was in Kano for an official visit, explained that the service was working assiduously to ensure adequate management of the nation’s borders to safeguard industries as well as protect the agricultural sector.

According to him, the agency was collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and other related stakeholders to ensure maximum food security in the country.

“We are not working in isolation, we are collaborating with other Federal Government ministries and parastatals to ensure adequate food security in the country,” the CG

Adeniyi noted that the service was also working closely with the border communities to ensure timely intelligence information which will be useful in curtailing smuggling of food and other contrabands.

He said as part of the effort to enhance effective community relations between the Nigeria Custom and border communities, the service will construct schools and health facilities to achieve the desired objectives.

“Six big projects would be sited at the border areas through special intervention provision,” he said.

The Comptroller General added that the NCS had begun roundtable meetings with leaders of the grains market to fine-tune modalities of addressing hikes in foodstuffs prices.
