Customs Auction Seized Petrol To Public At N630/Litre As NNPC Sells For N1,030 In Adamawa
Adeniyi explained that the interception was made in separate raids consisting of two trucks laden with 33,000 litres capacity each, filled with PMS around the Nigeria/Cameroon border in Adamawa State.
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has impounded a total of 94,550 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, and auctioned same to the public at a controlled price of N630 per litre.
This was disclosed on Wednesday in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, by the Comptroller General of the Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.
This comes as retail outlets of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) adjusted PMS pump price to N1,030 per litre in Yola.
Adeniyi explained that the interception was made in separate raids consisting of two trucks laden with 33,000 litres capacity each, filled with PMS around the Nigeria/Cameroon border in Adamawa State.
In another raid, a total of 28,550 of the product was intercepted in different containers including 12 drums of 200 litres each and 1,046 jerricans with 25-litre capacity.
The Comptroller took journalists to two filling stations where the product was auctioned to the public, noting that the operation was carried out by the Customs anti-smuggling team, codenamed ‘Operation Whirlwind’.
He said, “I am pleased to announce that in this latest phase of Operation Whirlwind, the following seizures have been made: Two trucks of 33,000-litre capacity each, filled with PMS intended to be smuggled.
“1,046 jerricans of 25-litre capacity each, filled with PMS intended to be smuggled.
“12 drums of 200-litre capacity each filled with PMS intended to be smuggled.
“Additionally, one suspect has been apprehended in connection with these smuggling activities.”
“The total number of litres of PMS seized under this phase amounts to 94.550 litres with the monetary value of N75,450,900.00,” Adeniyi added.
He was represented by the Deputy Controller General, Enforcement, Investigation and Inspection, Olaniyi Adisa Alajogun.
