Cuban foreign minister arrives Nigeria to strengthen bilateral ties
The Federal Government on Sunday welcomed Cuba’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Parrilla, who arrived in Nigeria for an official visit aimed at deepening diplomatic relations between both nations.
In a statement signed by the Acting Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, both nations have shared a historic partnership, particularly in their roles in the abolition of apartheid and support for liberation movements across Africa, contributing to the independence of several African countries.
The statement added, “The visiting Minister will hold a bilateral meeting with the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar to explore avenues for deepening bilateral ties in areas such as healthcare, education, agriculture, science and technology, and cultural exchange.
“Both nations will also deliberate on enhancing collaboration within multilateral frameworks to address global challenges and promote sustainable development.
“During the visit, the Cuban Foreign Minister will meet with the Vice President of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima to deliver a special message from the Government of Cuba. He is also expected to engage in high-level discussions with the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.”
Both Nigeria and Cuba are members of the Non-Aligned Movement and the Group of 77 plus China, sharing similar views on several global issues, including global peace, security, and sustainable development.
The ministry expressed its commitment to working closely with Cuba to advance shared interests and promote peace, stability, and prosperity both in their regions and globally.
