Counter-insurgency: NAF logged 20,000 flight hours in 2024
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, said the Nigerian Air Force achieved nearly 20,000 flight hours in its operations during 2024.

In his Christmas goodwill message to officers and airmen, Abubakar underscored NAF’s commitment to national security, particularly in combating insurgency, banditry, and other anti-economic activities.
“The 20,000 flight hours demonstrate our resolute commitment to securing the nation’s interests,” he said.
Reflecting on the challenges faced across various theaters of operation, the CAS commended the valour, determination, and resilience of personnel for the significant operational successes achieved.
“To my gallant officers and airmen, as we draw the curtain on another eventful year, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to every member of the NAF family. Your commitment and professionalism have been instrumental in ensuring the security and stability of our beloved country,” Abubakar stated.
The CAS noted improvements in aircraft serviceability rates and the impact of intensified personnel training, emphasising that these strides were crucial for greater self-reliance and reducing dependence on foreign support.
“We have focused on building expertise from within, strengthening the force, and ensuring readiness for future challenges,” he added.
Abubakar urged continued synergy and interagency cooperation, highlighting that modern warfare demands united efforts for enduring peace and security.
“Let us strengthen our partnerships with sister services and other security agencies, working together to build a safer and more secure Nigeria. With renewed vigour, unwavering resolve, and belief in our mission, there is no obstacle we cannot overcome,” he said.
Expressing confidence in the future, Abubakar assured that the NAF would continue to grow stronger, more resilient, and more capable.
“On behalf of the Nigerian Air Force leadership and my family, I extend my best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a peaceful, prosperous new year,” he said.
