Can Raheem Okoya be the next Davido?
Popular singer, David Adeleke, aka Davido, came into the music industry telling whoever cared to listen that he was the son of a rich man. He even sang about it severally, and it has become an inalienable part of his brand.
Over a decade later, there is another rich kid on the block, and he seems to be reading from the same playbook. Just like Davido, this new kid was also birthed into wealth and he is not afraid to flaunt it.
Enter, Raheem Okoya, popularly known as Sir Raheem on social media. Born to billionaire businessman, Rasaq Okoya and Shade, Raheem was sired in abundance and privilege.
While in the past, people of his ilk didn’t “condescend so low” to become entertainers, the tides have changed, and even the offspring of billionaires are now part of the legion of youths dreaming and hoping to make it big in the entertainment industry.
In recent times, Raheem has been posting a series tagged, “Lifestyle cost” on his social media. The videos show him roaming about his father’s mansion, while showing off the special features of the edifice, such as play areas, gyms, elevators, sophisticated décor and others. He also teases his viewers with peeks of the choice automobiles in the estate, including Rolls Royce and Mercedes Benz.
He however seemed to have bitten more than he could chew some when he posted a video that caught public attention for the wrong reason some weeks ago. Raheem made the news when the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission invited him to answer for a video had posted on social media, which also featured his brother Wahab and an unidentified police officer, desecrating the naira. Having a made a public spectacle of some individuals for abusing the naira, many citizens called on the EFCC to also investigate (and prosecute) Raheem if he was found wanting. The video was meant to promote his song titled, Credit Alert.
Showing remorse, the singer took to his social media to apologise to the public for his actions. He wrote, “To the Nigerian people, my actions were not to cause any trouble or harm. My intentions were pure and naive. I ask for your forgiveness and support in this situation, as I had no intention to raise such an alarm. I wasn’t fully aware of the consequences of my action.”
The singer also has other songs such as Bad B***h Syndrome, I Go Pay, Alien, Take Off, Overload and Which Type Woman.
Already, Raheem has started to get the attention he craves. His pictures and videos are well shared on social media, especially TikTok and Instagram. And, whatever he posts is usually fodder for blogs hungry for such news.
However, it remains to be seen whether the similarities that Raheem shares with Davido will continue. Will he also be embraced by success and become a superstar singer, selling out massive venues all over the world, with billions streaming his music? Time will tell!
