Body Found In Search For Missing Nigerian Poet In UK
A body has been found in the search for missing poet Gboyega Odubanjo who failed to show up to play at a festival in Northamptonshire, England.
According to Sky News on Thursday, the 27-year-old, who was scheduled to give a reading of his work on Sunday at the Shambala Festival, was last seen there on August 27.
He had been attending the festival with friends, but at 4 a.m. on Saturday, he became separated from them.
The corpse was found on Thursday morning at 9 a.m. after a targeted search of the area near Kelmarsh Hall, where the event was held over the weekend.
Although an official identification has not yet been made, police said Odubajo’s family, who are from Bromley in southeast London, have been informed and are receiving support.
Detective Chief Inspector Johnny Campbell said, “Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this very difficult time, and we would ask the media and members of the public to not contact them and respect their privacy.
“We would like to thank all those involved in the search efforts, including the volunteer members of Northamptonshire Search and Rescue and the specialist search-trained officers from other forces who supported our efforts.
“We would also like to thank all those who have supported our investigation by speaking to officers or getting in touch with information.
“Officers from Northamptonshire Police will now prepare a file for the coroner.”
