Bandits kill one, injure four in Katsina highway attack
Bandits, on Sunday, attacked a commercial vehicle along Jibia-Katsina Road in Katsina State, killing one passenger while four others were injured.
A source in the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the matter, told our correspondent on Sunday that there was an attack by bandits along the Jibia-Katsina road with the intention to kidnap the passengers.
However, according to the source, the military responded, rescued the victims, and evacuated the injured and the dead to the Jibia General Hospital.
He said, “This evening, bandits carried out attacks on Jibia-Katsina Road, particularly at Dan Arau village area, a few meters from Magama town in Jibia Local Government area of Katsina State and opened fire on a commercial vehicle carrying passengers from Jibia Market.
“During the attack, five passengers were shot. One died instantly, while the other four sustained various degrees of gunshot wounds and were rushed to hospital.
“We laud the swift response by the joint Army operation that gave the bandits a hot chase, forced them to flee and abandon the kidnapped passengers.”
Meanwhile, the state Police Public Relations Officer ASP Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed the incident.
“14 victims were rescued. One died as a result of the attack. Investigation is ongoing,” he said.
