Bandits kill 10 in multiple attacks in Zamfara
Bandits have killed 10 people, including a member of the Community Protection Guards identified as Murtala Fachi, in a series of violent attacks across Zamfara State.
Fachi was killed alongside two other passengers while travelling along the Anka-Gusau road on Tuesday.
He was reportedly on his way to Gusau to testify in a court case when gunmen ambushed their commercial vehicle near Tashan Kuturu, a known flashpoint on the Anka-Mayanchi route.
According to eyewitnesses, the bandits opened fire on the vehicle, killing the driver and two passengers, including Fachi.
He was said to be in plain clothes at the time of the attack, raising questions about whether the incident was a random act of violence or a targeted killing.
“We can’t say for sure it was a targeted attack because Fachi wasn’t in uniform. Unless there was an informant involved, it might just have been a coincidence,” a source said.
In a related incident, seven more people were reported killed in separate attacks on Dolen Moriki and Kaiwa Lamba villages in Zurmi Local Government Area.
The attacks occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, with residents describing the assaults as unprovoked and devastating.
The spokesman of the Zamfara State Police Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar Could not be reached for confirmation at the time of filling this report.
