Ayekooto FM Presenter Declared Wanted for Alleged N1m Fraud
The management of Ayekooto FM, a radio station based in Osun State, has declared its former presenter, Daniel Adefare, wanted for allegedly absconding with the station’s property and funds amounting to over N1 million.
Adefare, who served as the secretary of the station’s Christmas carol committee, was tasked with selling tickets and collecting donations for the event.
According to the station’s General Manager, Akanji Musibau, Adefare sold 63 event cards worth N180,000 without remitting the funds to the station. Despite being directed to stop collecting donations into his personal account, Adefare allegedly continued to do so, failing to declare the funds.
The police were involved, and Adefare was detained for three days. He later wrote an undertaking to refund the money, but failed to do so.
The station has since declared him wanted, posting on its Facebook page: “Daniel Adefare, who claims to be from Ile-Ife, Osun State, is wanted by the police.”
When contacted, Adefare disputed the amount, claiming it was N270,000, not N1 million. He stated that he had paid N87,000 towards the debt and was committed to settling the remaining N183,000.
However, the station’s General Manager insisted that the amount was indeed over N1 million and that Adefare had taken a loan from the organization, which he had yet to fully repay.
The case has sparked controversy, with Adefare denying allegations of absconding from work, claiming he was sick and did not intend to abandon his job. The station, however, maintains that Adefare’s actions were deliberate, and they are determined to recover the missing funds.
