In a statement by the spokesman, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Army clarified that promotions within its ranks are strictly merit-based and governed by established statutory regulations.

The process follows clearly defined guidelines outlined in the Nigerian Army Administrative Policies and Procedures (Revised 2023) and the Armed Forces of Nigeria Harmonized Terms and Conditions of Service for Soldiers, Ratings, and Airmen (2024), he said.

“Key criteria for elevation in rank include meeting the minimum service period in a substantive rank, completing required professional courses, maintaining a satisfactory disciplinary and performance record, and fulfilling medical and physical fitness standards,” he said.

The Army emphasized that it remains committed to upholding the standard promotion criteria observed across all branches of the Nigerian Armed Forces, ensuring fairness, professionalism, and operational efficiency.

It urged the public to disregard the misleading reports, reaffirming that the COAS, Lieutenant General Oluyede, remains dedicated to the welfare and career progression of Army personnel under his “Soldier First” mantra while maintaining due process and international best practices.
