APC women back new Lagos speaker, supporters rally behind Obasa

Loyalists of the former Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudasiru Obasa, met at Agege, on Wednesday, to show solidarity with the recently impeached Speaker.

The meeting held at the constituency office of Obasa attracted some members and leaders of the party in the Agege local government area.

Gathered under the auspices of the “Continuity Obasa Movement,” leaders of the meeting asked members of the All Progressives Congress in Agege LG not to be bothered about recent happenings to Obasa but to remain firm.

Obasa was, on Monday, impeached by members of the Lagos State House of Assembly over multiple allegations of fraud.

In rallying support for Obasa at Wednesday’s meeting, some party leaders in the LG called for a show of hands in support of Obasa, with the hands of all those present going up.

One of the party leaders called to speak, Mr Jubril Abdulkareem declared, “We have no one else, Obasa is our leader in Agege. We own Agege, No shaking.

“We, leaders, exco and members of APC in Agege and Orile Agege unanimously show our support for Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, who has contributed immensely to the development of the party in the community.

“We also pledge unflinching support for the national leader of the party, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Despite the recent incident, we still believe in his sense of judgment.”

Other leaders of the meeting urged the Obasa supporters to remain firm and united, adding that they remain members of the All Progressives Congress in Agege Local Government and will enjoy the goodies of being a party member.

“Obasa is our leader in Agege, let us not be bothered by the Speakership issue that happened. God will help resolve the issue of Speakership and we will be favoured by God’s grace. Obasa is our leader and we stand by him.

“We reiterate commitment, loyalty and support for Mudashiru Obasa,” one of the leaders of the meeting said.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Woman Leader, Lagos Caucus of the All Progressives Congress in the United Kingdom, Dr Ayisat Gbajabiamila, has congratulated Mojisola Meranda on her election as new the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

In her congratulatory message obtained on Wednesday, Gbajabiamila, who is currently the acting woman leader of the caucus, pledged support of the women in the chapter for the Speaker.

Mojisola emerged new Speaker of the Lagos assembly on Monday after the lawmakers ousted Obasa in a unanimous decision, citing misconduct and financial misappropriations.

The APC chieftain described the emergence of Meranda as a remarkable achievement, noting it was a groundbreaking moment for women in leadership.

“This victory is a proud milestone for Lagos State and a testament to your dedication and capability. We, the women of the APC Lagos Chapter in the UK, join in celebrating your success,” she stated.

She expressed optimism about the Speaker’s ability to lead effectively and foster collaboration that will enhance the development of Lagos State.

“We look forward to working closely with you to achieve a Lagos that delivers on the promises of democracy for every citizen,” she added.

She also lauded the efforts of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, acknowledging his role in laying a solid foundation for effective governance.

“The governor’s commitment to progress has been instrumental, and this new leadership will surely build on those achievements,” she noted.
