Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has appointed Chief Daniel Osikheme Orbih, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as Chairman of the Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University (AAU).

The announcement, made through a statement by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Musa Ikhilor, on Tuesday evening, disclosed that Orbih would head a seven-member board tasked with steering the university’s affairs.

Other members of the council include Martins Osakwe, Prof. Steve Amiemenkharu Iyayi, Lukman Muhammad, Prof. Idialu Jeremiah Uwaifo, Prof. Eric Kelly Inanemo Omogbai, and Prof. Omoruyi Ikponmwonse Osahon.

According to the statement, the council’s appointment took effect on 31 December, 2024.

Orbih, a prominent leader of the Legacy Group faction of the PDP in Edo, gained attention for his group’s decision to reject the PDP’s candidate in the 21 September governorship election.

Instead, the faction backed the All Progressives Congress (APC), which ultimately secured victory for Governor Okpebholo.

This development highlights a significant political collaboration between factions in Edo State politics as the new governing council assumes its role in advancing Ambrose Alli University’s growth and development.
