According to the party’s spokesman, Hon. Seye Oladejo, the impeachment process was entirely the prerogative of the House of Assembly and had no influence from the party or its executive.

Obasa was removed by members of the House on Monday and subsequently replaced by Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda as the new Speaker.

Oladejo stated that the development reflected the independence of the legislative arm of government.

He said: “His impeachment is not a party affair; it’s the entire business of the House of Assembly. It has nothing to do with the party. They enjoy their independence as one of the three tiers of government.

“As an independent body, we have to accept what the members of the House have put in the public domain. Politics is about intrigues and interests, and the only thing permanent is your interest at a particular time as a politician. That is universal and not peculiar to Nigeria.”

The APC spokesman also reaffirmed the party’s commitment to delivering good governance and fulfilling its electoral promises to the people of Lagos State.
