Akeredolu Inaugurates AAUA Business School, promises training of civil servants
Ondo state governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on Monday said that some civil servants would be enrolled for professional courses at the new Adekunle Ajasin University Business School, Akure, Ondo State capital.
Akeredolu stated this while inaugurating Adekunle Ajasin University Business School in Akure.
The governor instructed the state Head of Service, Pastor John Adeyemo to select some civil servants in the state for training at the new institution as part of the administration’s human capacity building programme.
Akeredolu said: “We are living in a time when true scholarly interventions and knowledge capacity are required by the countries of the world to produce new crop of leaders and entrepreneurs that are nationally and globally competitive.
“In the spirit of the value we place on education as a tool for manpower development, we have made a deliberate effort to strengthen our Quality Assurance strategy in our primary and secondary schools which serve as the foundation for producing upright students to the tertiary institutions in the State.
“We have also made it a policy to focus on the renovation of schools across the length and breadth of the State towards creating the enabling environment for learning.
“The Adekunle Ajasin University Business School, Akure, will be another lofty signpost in our administration’s commitment to the kind of education we envisioned to drive economic growth, self-reliance among our people and all-round development in the State.
“I am aware that this Business School will offer specialised and professional courses for entrepreneurship oriented graduates, career persons and corporate organisations through its internal resources and meaningful collaborations with other world-class business schools and institutions around the world.
“Apart from the unique architectural features of the Adekunle Ajasin University Business School, Ondo State can also boast to have owned the 2nd strategically positioned Business School in the whole of Southwest, Nigeria.
“On this, I commend the university administration for its thoughtfulness.
Ladies and gentlemen, while the government would not stop doing its best in terms of job creation and employment opportunities, the truth remains that no government can employ all of her citizens.
“We are living in a time when true scholarly interventions and knowledge capacity are required by the countries of the world to produce new crop of leaders and entrepreneurs that are nationally and globally competitive. As a government, we are immensely pleased to see the institutions under our watch prospering and working in this direction.
“We will continue to provide an enabling environment for businesses to thrive and for creative ideas to be birthed and nurtured.
“We are also resolute on our desire to continue to do our best to fund our higher education institutions despite fierce competition and shrinking government resources.”
In his address, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Olugbenga Ige said the Business School would train and produce personnel for the commercial and corporate sector globally.
According to him, “The AAU Business School will not only serve as an academic hub to offer long term Executive Master in Business Administration programmes and short-term Certificate Courses for career persons and corporate organizations, but will also collaborate with other world-class Business Schools and institutions around the world that could provide academic support and meaningful academic exchange in the administration of its prospective courses.”
The institution located opposite Coop Cocoa Building, Agbogbo/Benin Motor Park Road, Akure, has 14 lecture halls, 14 office spaces, an ICT hall, a large conference room, six store rooms, large number of conveniences, and other modern amenities.
The vice chancellor, therefore, promised to engage competent hands to maintain the school and “to keep both the external and internal contents in pristine condition at all times. Efforts would also be made to ensure a round-the-clock guarantee of the safety and security of the complex.”
The Pro-Chancellor of the varsity, Dr. Tunji Abayomi emphasised the need for having business approach to all engagements for the development of the nation.
