Aiyedatiwa ACTing pursuant to recent resolution and in conformity with the unanimous resolve to keep the state at peace for public interest – Olasumbo Faseesin, Esq
In view of the recent development, and the internal political wrangling between the various group within and outside the APC political interests, as well as other disturbing and disgusting news serenading our country’s political space with respect to Ondo State, the choice of who succeeds the incumbent Governor(even when still alive and recuperating) among other issues have prompted my intervention.
However, much as it seems impossible, it is not difficult to untie political knots to keep parties in the meeting of minds. It is not impracticable either if parties unite, disregarding personal grains but embracing collective and overriding interests for good of the greatest number.
To this end, the news that the Deputy Governor currently seats to oversee the Executive meeting barring other issues is itself a proper response to Governance. This, in a way, gives hope to expect and anticipate governance & leadership in the absence of Mr. Governor. This, is, what the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria prescribes and unless as provided in Chapter 6. Part 2. Section 191 wherein (1) The Deputy Governor of a state shall hold the office of Governor if the office of Governor becomes vacant by reason of …….
Unfortunately, the office of the Governor still breathes life and would continue until it is established otherwise. Upon this, it is advised that the Deputy Governor continues to keep the peace accord to preserve among other things INCIDENTAL responsibilities akin to his constitutional roles & obligations as the Deputy Governor and lieutenant to the Governor.
Going forward, it is envisaged that cabinet members will stampede politics and allow the good people of Ondo State breathe fresh hope for continuity. That, in the absence of Mr. Governor, the Deputy Governor in that capacity is encouraged to foster unity, peace and togetherness. He’s also expected to discharge responsibilities akin and INCIDENTAL to his office and ultimately, discharge the functions of the office as provided by the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
Consequently, the Deputy Governor in the overriding benefits of Ondo State continues to preserve public interest, public morality, public safety, public order and for such other purpose, the rights and freedom of all citizens in Ondo state…..
However, these are rights guaranteed by the constitution. He’s to keep the legacies of his principal in various projects and material benefits to the good people of Ondo state.
May this peaceful pact entered by all parties sustain our fragile democracy in Ondo state. Above all, it must be governance rooted in commitment to service delivery, security of life and property among other obligations in the exercise of duty and as prescribed for in the 1999 constitution (as amended). That in the end, we can be proud of our sunshine state radiating the brighter shines among other federating states in Nigeria.
The political peculiarity of Ondo state is such that it must be respected by all and sundry to promote peace and foster unity.
Let the sun continue shine as we anticipate and pray the recovery of Mr. Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN.
