Afenifere promises collaboration with Ohanaeze for Nigeria’s progress
The pan-Yoruba socio-cultural and political organisation, Afenifere, has pledged its readiness to collaborate with the apex Igbo group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and other ethnic nationalities to advance Nigeria’s development.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Jare Ajayi, Afenifere congratulated Ohanaeze on the successful election of its new Executive Council, led by President-General John Azuta-Mbata.
The statement, attributed to Afenifere’s leader, Reuben Fasoranti, expressed goodwill towards the new leadership of Ohanaeze and emphasised the importance of unity among Nigeria’s ethnic groups for the nation’s progress.
Fasoranti said, “Afenifere and many ethnic organisations in Nigeria work in synergy to uplift the country. Some of these bodies are Ohaneze, Middle Belt Forum, Pan Niger Delta Forum, etc.”
He also assured Ohanaeze of Afenifere’s support, adding, “We pray for a successful tenure for the new Exco and assure the body of Afenifere’s readiness to work with ethnic nationalities, including Ohaneze, for the betterment of our dear country, Nigeria.”
The elections, held last Friday in Enugu, Enugu State, were peaceful, leading to the emergence of a new leadership for Ohanaeze.
Azuta-Mbata was elected President-General, while Chief Okey Nwadinobi emerged as National Deputy President.
Emeka Sibeidu was named Secretary-General, and several others were elected to key positions, including Dan Okenyi as Deputy Secretary-General and Charles Kalu as National Financial Secretary.
Five vice president-generals were also elected to represent states that did not produce a president-general or deputy president.
