An aide to Osun State Governor, Mr. Muniru Raji and the Senatorial Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Mr. Adeoye Adelakun, have disagreed on the chances of an Osogbo indigene succeeding the incumbent Ademola Adeleke as Osun Governor in 2026.

Raji and Adelakun, a former member representing Osogbo State Constituency in the House of Assembly, both hailed from Osogbo, Osun State capital.

A video where Raji, a Special Adviser on Political Affairs to the governor spoke against any move towards an Osogbo indigene succeeding Adeleke had gone viral on social media.

In the video, Raji, speaking in the Yoruba language said it was not yet time for Osogbo to contemplate staking a claim on the seat of governors, calling for unity among indigenes for the ambition to come to fruition before long.

“Osogbo is not ripe for a governorship push now. We need to put our house in order first. Osogbo has the potential to lead Osun State, but disunity among our people remains a significant barrier. Without a united front, achieving the dream of producing a governor from Osogbo will be nearly impossible.

“I strongly warn those using the Osogbo Agenda for their selfish interests to desist. Such actions only deepen divisions and hinder our progress as a community,” he said.

But Adelakun, while reacting to Raji’s position, during an interview with The PUNCH on Monday, dismissed it, saying the Osun governor’s aide could not speak for Osogbo as a community.

He said, “Apart from me being in APC, I am a thoroughbred Osogbo person, and Muniru is trying to bring his own idea into what Osogbo should actually follow.

“If some people in Osogbo sat down and said that we should actually draw a timeline for a governor to come from the town, I don’t think a sane Osogbo son or daughter will wake up from the wrong side of his or her bed and say we should wait until a particular time.

“It could be that time, it could be now, but the truth of the matter is that the journey of a thousand miles starts from a step, and people wanted a step to take place from that particular notice. And he (Raji) is talking about anything 2030. That idea should not come from any thoroughbred Osogbo person, that is the idea I have.”
