ACSPN Imo Excos interfaces with Commissioner Emelumba

The Executive members of the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN), led by their leader, Dr Adeline Nkwam-Uwaoma, yesterday visited the Imo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon. Declean Emelumba, on introduction basis.

Notably, the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN) is one of the most prominent and vibrant professional bodies in the field of communication and related disciplines in West Africa.

In his welcoming address, Emelumba appreciated the executive members of the association while describing the forum as a unique body that requires encouragement from media practitioners across the country.
According to him, journalism is a noble profession that serves as a watchdog of society.

He further charged the association members to use the forum to encourage balance and objectivity in news reportage in the state.
The Commissioner called on the Association to use their platform to propose legislation before the National Assembly to make journalism a true profession in order to checkmate the level of interlopers in the profession.

Rounding off his speech, he assured them of his office’s readiness to help move the association forward.

Speaking earlier, the Imo state chairman of ACSPN, Dr Adeline Nkwam-Uwaoma, affirmed that the Association is committed to advancing the scholarly study and practice of communication by promoting and facilitating excellence in academic research and professional practice in Nigeria.

She further noted that one of the basic aims of the body is to support the process of shaping communication scholarship, training and practice in Nigeria whilst complementing the work of other bodies with similar aims and building on the potential of the field of communication in Nigeria, conscious of the needs of the country for critical inputs from communication scholars and professionals to shape a future that will promote growth and development.

Also, introducing the executive members of the association was the Public Relations Officer, Lady Peggy Okodogbe, while the state secretary of the association, Mr. Peter Dibia, gave the vote of thanks. Emeka Etumnu, Director of social, and the Director of welfare, Lady Felicia Ejiogu, said the opening and closing prayers .
