A Glance @Dr.Mimiko’s 70th Birthday – Olasumbo Faseesin, Esq.
A former board member of the public defender in Ondo state, Bar. Olasumbo Faseesin has congratulated the former Governor of ondo state, Dr Olusegun Mimiko on his 70th birthday celebration.
The congratulatory message was contained in a statement released to our Heritage reporter on Thursday morning titled A Glance @Dr.Mimiko’s 70th Birthday.
According to Bar. Faseesin, I am no doubt happy you came this far. Congratulations, Iroko.
If anyone would desire political leadership, I will suggest Dr. Rahman Mimiko whose political trajectory inspires younger folks .Well, if you must know, I was obviously one of such people during my Uni days. The famous Iroko apparently appeared very attractive with charming attributes. One of such political attributes any politician must posses is good sense of humour. Dr. Mimiko successfully used mild innuendos to attract and most times command attention. Mimiko appeared like someone who although had the science background yet he knew more of literature and potentially applied these literary appreciation. He knows when to smile, laugh, joke or, even sing satirical songs. A vastly experienced politician who reckon the import of mutual benefits in relationships. I knew Mimiko for many years had quite a handful of people.
Delving into politics with army of followers is a clarity of purpose for Mimiko. He had the young, average and older folks who believed his vision to transform Ondo State. I was obviously in that class and league of the young chap who believed Mimiko. I was that crazy! It was a risky decision at the time, but my swifly deserved romance with reality encouraged my decision.
My very good Lecturer, Dr. Busuyi Mekusi had spoken eloquently about Mimiko in few of my interactions.I equally saw how he rose to political stardom. Among other things is Mimiko’s seductive-oratory prowess. No doubt, Iroko is gifted. So I witnessed how Mimiko enjoyed political patronage from the late Adebayo Adefarati and his immediate predecessor, Dr. Olusegun Agagu. How he amazingly but successfully navigated the terrain up until he became a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and returned from this ladder 🪜to kick off the late Agagu who had incumbency advantage. That was the prominent Iroko.
Above thesis explains who Gov. Mimiko has always been save and except few attempts to diminish humanity which we all resisted and firmly objected, stampeded until now. Giving this background, we can unanimously agree Mimiko has found favour with God. Amidst many criticisms, I see Iroko is loved by God and I hope men would wish to love him again. In our brief engagement at the Gbenga Adene 2020 HowGa hangout, inspired by my own good Egbon Wale Leyimu, I saw a very simple Mimiko who jokingly and humorously appealed that we put the past behind and forge a new beginning. I wonder, like Dr. Abati’s many narratives and concerns about the ephemeral nature of power.
Since meeting Iroko and my yesteryears soft spot, I have completely understood and agreed that men are fallible. The difference, most times, is usually a seemingly larger than life posture and advantage power brings. Otherwise, men are equal and potentially gifted differently to make significant impacts. Exactly what played out with the leadership of Gov. Mimiko at the time. It seem more fleeting than anyone could imagine. Transient Nature of Power!
As we all witness your 70th birthday, Iroko. We are favoured and more privileged to see the “ordinariness” of power. I must also comment on the need to retain or, maintain enviable status & class going forward. Iroko, I admire and probably would again desire that you keep focus on Humanity as you turned 70. Should any opportunity come, I encourage you in love to please, “Ja fori everybody”
More importantly, Iroko, this is the time to mentor young folks and teach them from experience how to keep “simple” in leadership. Teach young folks holding executive power to tread with caution and embrace the limitation of power. It doesn’t last forever!. Tell them to embrace humanity and do no evil. Encourage young folks to respect human rights and object any abuse. At 70, speak truth to power!
My dear Iroko, I will re-unite and cause a rendezvous so we discuss and dialogue prospects for Ondo State beyond politics. I encourage you to enjoy your birthday with well wishers and count your blessings. It is not the mileage, but the very significant purpose of our existence on earth. Do enjoy every bit of this unique milestone 😀
God has been kind, Iroko.
I verily know If you had that chance to turn back the hands of time, Iroko will do better. Happy birthday with love from Fash.
Congratulations,
Dr. Abayomi Rahman Mimiko.
Frm. Ondo State Governor
Happy 70th!!!!
