APC Lawmaker Asks EFCC, ICPC To Probe APC Governor Following Award Of N1.2Billion Contract To Repair 25 Boreholes
This comes a few hours after the governor in a trending video claimed he awarded a N1.2 billion contract to repair 25 boreholes.
Sani Yakubu, the All Progressives Congress lawmaker representing Gudu/Tangaza Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has accused the Sokoto state government led by Ahmad Aliyu of corruption, deceit, and embezzlement.
Aliyu is also a member of the ruling APC.
This comes a few hours after the governor in a trending video claimed he awarded a N1.2 billion contract to repair 25 boreholes.
Aliyu had in the video obtained and published by SaharaReporters also announced the approval of the N33 billion Lugu Dam construction project.
“We have given out a contract for the repair of 25 boreholes at the rate of one billion two hundred million (N1,200,000,00),” he stated in Hausa.
“We have also approved the construction of the Lugu Dam at a cost of N33 billion.”
However, while addressing some of his constituents in a trending video, Yakubu denounced the state government’s ‘penchant for initiating memos that only serve to enrich officials’ pockets’.
“The government has been dishonest about many issues and a humongous amount of money is being embezzled,” the APC lawmaker lamented in Hausa.
He further appealed to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to intervene, saying only thorough investigations will reveal the truth behind his accusations.
On the politics of Godfatherism within the ruling party, Yakubu said, “We’ve had enough of this politics of godfatherism, and enough with political slavery.”
Sokoto like several Northwest states has been in the grip of bandits, picturing the alarming insecurity and poverty in the region.
SaharaReporters recently reported that, in response to the escalating security threats in the North-West, including banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism, Bello Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence, directed the Chief of Defence Staff and other senior military officials to relocate to Sokoto State.
He also moved to the Northwest region on Tuesday.
The strategic relocation aims to intensify the government’s counter-insurgency efforts in the region.
The Ministry of Defence, through a statement by Henshaw Ogubike, highlighted that this move underscores the government’s commitment to eradicating these threats.
The decision follows public outrage over a viral video in which bandits celebrated capturing a Nigerian military armoured vehicle.
Matawalle emphasised that during their time in the North-West, they would oversee military operations to target notorious terrorists such as Bello Turji and his gang.
He assured that the government is dedicated to deploying all necessary resources to restore peace and security.
Matawalle also urged the residents of Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, and Kebbi states to stay vigilant and cooperate with security forces, reaffirming the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
