Domestic violence is canker worm destabilizing society- Igolo Njaba.
Rt.Hon.Amb.Uju Jovita Onwudiwe of Njaba State Constituency, within the week featured on the NTA issues of the moment, where she did justice to the topic, rising case of “Domestic Violence”, in the society.
Dr.Onwudiwe described domestic violence as a canker worm that is geometrically eating deep into the fabrics of the society
today that must be put to check.
She stated that domestic violence can be equalled to a negative or dehumanizing actions meted out on a child, man or woman which the society abhors.
Any action or behavior that frightens, intimidates, terrorizes, hurts, humiliates, injures or even lead to someone’s death according to the astute law maker can be classified as domestic violence she affirmed.
The law maker also opined that domestic abuse can happen to anyone notwithstanding ones race, age, sexual orientation, religion, or gender. It can also occur within a range of relationships including couples who are married, living together or dating.
Igolo Njaba further added that it was in a bid to arrest this ugly situation that led to her sponsorship of Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) bill which was recently signed into law by the Executive governor of Imo State, Dist. Senator Hope Odidika Uzodimma.
The VAPP law according to Mrs Onwudiwe was designed to tackle “all forms of violence against persons both in private and public life” and provide “maximum protection and effective remedies for victims and punishment of offenders.”
The Njaba law maker who is the current house committee Chairman on Education, Gender development and Vulnerable affairs of the Imo State house of Assembly, condemned in strong terms the rumoured circumstances that led to the death of the famous singer, Mrs Osinachi Nwachukwu and calls for proper investigations into the matter to ascertain the authenticity or otherwise of the news making round about her unfortunate demise.
