The Supreme Court has affirmed the reelection of Governor Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the governor of Imo State.
In a unanimous decision delivered on Friday, August 23, a five-member panel of the apex court dismissed the appeal filed by the Labour Party (LP) and its candidate, Athan Achonu.
Justice Mohammed Baba Idris, who delivered the lead judgment, addressed all three issues raised for determination against the appellants.
He concluded that the appellants, who were the petitioners at the election tribunal, did not meet the burden of proof required to support their case.
Consequently, Justice Idris upheld the judgment of the Court of Appeal, which had affirmed the election tribunal’s decision to dismiss the appellants’ petition.
The court is now delivering its judgment in the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Samuel Anyanwu.
