ONDO GOVERNMENT VISITS SCENE OF FIRE INCIDENT IN OKEIGBO LCDA
On the 20th of August 2024, a devastating fire broke out in the historic town of Okeigbo, resulting in the destruction of a full-story building and loss of goods estimated to be worth over #20,000,000 belonging to Alfa Kabiru Owolabi, a local trading merchant. Following the incident, Prince Oriade Wellington Adebawo, the SA to the Governor on Emergency Response, swiftly arrived at the scene today alongside the Ondo State Fire Service Director, Engr. Folorunsho, to assess the damage and sympathize with the victim of the inferno.
Upon arrival, Prince Oriade Wellington Adebawo and his team first stopped at the office of Hon. Adeboye Adebare, the Chairman, Transition Committee, Okeigbo LCDA, to a warm welcome from the Committee members. The Chairman expressed his profound gratitude to the Ondo State Governor Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his sterling leadership qualities which was evident in the prompt response of the SA to the Governor on Emergency Response within 24 hours of the fire outbreak. He commended the Governor for his dedication to the welfare of the people and praised the timely arrival of the dedicated men of the State Fire Service during the fire incident which ultimately helped contain the fire thus saving other nearby properties.
During the visit, Prince Oriade Adebawo conveyed Governor Aiyedatiwa’s message of hope and sympathy to the owner of the once thriving business and assured that necessary measures would be taken to address the situation in the coming days. In addition, Engr. Folorunsho sought the LCDA chairman’s collaboration with relevant government emergency response agencies in taking necessary steps to inform, educate, and train the residents of Okeigbo LCDA on emergency preparedness, response and management.
As part of the visit, the SA and his team, along with the chairman, other committee members, and the youth leader, Ondo South Senatorial Hon. Oriade Abiodun, proceeded to the site of the incident to gain a firsthand understanding of the impact and engage with other community stakeholders which culminated in a visit to the Palace of the Oba where the SA and his team met with some chiefs who equally appreciated the unscheduled visit.
