Nigerian Military declares position on unconstitutional change of Government
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has on Friday, announced that the Nigerian military remains committed to upholding the country’s democratic government and will not support any unconstitutional changes.
This declaration was made as part of a report detailing ongoing military and security operations across Nigeria up to August 8, 2024.
The DHQ emphasized its dedication to working alongside other security agencies to address the nation’s security issues, particularly those related to violent protests and subversive activities.
The military vowed to maintain stability and prevent any threats to Nigeria’s democracy, reinforcing its stance against any unconstitutional government changes.
During recent operations, the military reported significant actions and successes. Troops neutralized 108 individuals and detained 172 suspects.
They also apprehended 32 people involved in oil theft and rescued 214 hostages. In the South-South region, the military thwarted theft attempts involving an estimated ₦1.35 billion, recovered 66 weapons, and seized 4,087 rounds of ammunition.
The detailed inventory of recovered items included various firearms, ammunition, vehicles, motorcycles, and cash totaling ₦4,986,000.
Additionally, the military dismantled 487 illegal refining sites and confiscated large quantities of stolen and illegally refined oil products.
The DHQ concluded that all suspects, recovered items, and rescued individuals have been handed over to relevant authorities for further action, reaffirming their commitment to safeguarding democracy and national security.
