President Tinubu’s Speech Leak Is Sabotage; There Should Be Consequences, Says Bwala

Former spokesman for Atiku Abubakar’s presidential campaign, Daniel Bwala, has denounced the premature leak of President Bola Tinubu’s speech on social media, calling it a deliberate act of sabotage.
The leak occurred before the President’s scheduled nationwide broadcast on Sunday morning, prompting Bwala’s criticism.
Following President Tinubu’s Sunday morning address to Nigerians amid nationwide protests, Daniel Bwala took to his X handle to express concerns over the unauthorised leak of the speech.
He emphasised that such breaches can be detrimental and should only be allowed with explicit presidential approval.
Bwala drew parallels with the US, where presidential speeches are only shared with the White House press corps 15 minutes before delivery, and only in hard copy form to brief the press on the President’s direction.
He highlighted the importance of maintaining confidentiality around presidential speeches and suggested repercussions for the leak.
He said, “The speech by the President Bola Tinubu was leaked last night and was published on social media before the morning. That is sabotage.
“Unless it was authorized by Mr President, there should be consequences for the leak.”

In another post, he said, “In the US, I learned the president’s speech is only made available to the White House press corps 15 minutes to the address and only a hard copy is given before the address for the purpose of just giving them a heads up about the president’s direction.”

The premature release of the speech, which went viral before the broadcast, left millions of Nigerians surprised and questioning the presidency’s competence.
Netizens expressed concerns that if the media team could not handle a sensitive document like the presidential address with care, it raises doubts about the government’s ability to effectively lead and move the country forward.
