#EndBadGovernance Protests: AIT Cameraman Injured In Chaos, Suffers Leg Dislocation Fleeing Police, DSS Bullets In Abuja
Kuku suffered a leg dislocation after falling into an uncovered manhole while fleeing from security operatives who opened fire on the crew.
African Independent Television (AIT) cameraman, Femi Kuku, narrowly escaped death on Saturday in Abuja while covering the #EndBadGovernance protest at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
Kuku suffered a leg dislocation after falling into an uncovered manhole while fleeing from security operatives who opened fire on the crew.
He recounted how the team was setting up equipment when security vehicles arrived, and operatives began shooting sporadically, forcing them to scramble for safety.
Kuku credited his colleague’s quick thinking for saving his life, as they pushed him into their vehicle and sped away from the danger zone.
He said, “We were about to setting up at the National Stadium when we saw a new set of security vehicles that came to the front of the stadium. They started coming down from the vehicles. All of the sudden they crossed over to meet us and started firing guns at us.
“At that point, we had to pack up because everyone wanteed to escape. They were shooting at us.
“At a point, I wanted to escape but I fell into an uncovered manhole in front of the stadium there. A colleague picked me up and pushed me inside the vehicle. We moved forward just to check on each other but the same set of DSS operatives and police came from the other side of the road and attacked us again.
“When I got to the hospital, they gave me first aid and asked me to go and do an X-ray of my leg.”
SaharaReporters had earlier reported how hooded DSS operatives took over the front of the National Stadium and dispersed protesters with tear teargas.
“Six vehicles loaded with DSS operatives and soldiers have chased away the peaceful protesters. This is the brand of democracy Bola Tinubu has given to Nigerians.
“Everywhere is tense and the DSS operatives are loading their rifles and threatening to fire at anyone who continues the protest,” an eyewitness told SaharaReporters.
