In a statement on Tuesday, the Commissioner of Police for the FCT, Benneth Igweh, emphasised the necessity of maintaining public order while respecting individuals’ rights to express grievances through lawful means.

“We are taking this matter seriously to ensure both the safety of Mr. Yushau and the community,” Igweh stated.

Yushau, if deemed mentally fit following evaluation, will face charges under sections 231, 111, and 114 of the Penal Code Act, on attempted suicide, disturbance of public peace, and incitement.

These charges underscore the legal ramifications of actions that disrupt public tranquillity and safety.

Speaking on behalf of the FCT police command, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, conveyed the Commissioner’s commitment to upholding law and order.

“It is imperative that while citizens exercise their rights, they do so responsibly to prevent any breakdown of social harmony,” Adeh said.

The case of Yushau has drawn attention to the broader issue of mental health and community support mechanisms in Abuja.

She noted that authorities are expected to proceed with due diligence in both legal and humanitarian aspects of the incident.

For further updates, the FCT police command urges residents to remain vigilant and cooperative in maintaining a secure environment for all.
