Ebonyi Community, Market Reinforce Ban On Cow Meat After Herdsmen’s Violent Attacks

The Ehugbo Community in Ebonyi State has reaffirmed its ban on the sale and consumption of cow meat, directing the Ekpuke Eto age grade to enforce the ban in the Eke market.
The community’s General Assembly, comprising various age grades and associations, also established an enforcement team to seize and destroy any cow meat found in the market.
The decision, SaharaReporters gathered, was issued during the community’s meeting held at Okpoota village square in Amaizu community during the weekend.
The age grades were tasked with engaging with neighbouring communities, like Unwana, to prevent them from harbouring cow sellers.
Speaking during the meeting, the Ezeogo-elect, Chief Patrick Oko Chukwu, emphasised that the age grades are the decision-making body and warned against defying the collective decision.
The ban was initially implemented four years ago due to tensions with herdsmen, resulting in farmers abandoning their lands.
The community has maintained its stance to ensure peace and stability in the area.
