Disbelieve as LG Chairman stops Thanksgiving Service in honour of SGF, Akume
The abrupt suspension of a thanksgiving Church service intended for the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), by the Caretaker Chairman of Guma Local Government Area in Benue State, Unongu Simon, has stirred concern throughout the state.
Originally planned for Sunday, the service was to be followed by a reception honoring the SGF. However, Chairman Unongu, via a broadcast on state radio, instructed the NKST Church in Daudu, the venue of the event, to postpone it due to security concerns.
He emphasised that all public gatherings in the area must receive official approval from his office.
Despite this directive, organisers of the event asserted their intention to proceed with the thanksgiving service as scheduled, insisting on their right to do so.
Lazarus Asema, a member of the Central Planning Committee for the church service, affirmed, the venue and time for the church service remained unchanged.
Daudu, the host community located near Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, is home to an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp resulting from attacks by herdsmen on local farming communities.
