Police condemn attack on Anambra council headquarters secretariat
The Anambra state police command have condemned Saturday morning attack at the Ogbaru local government area headquarters secretariat by armed arsonists.
The command in a statement made available to newsmen by the spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga, while condemning the attack, said four patrol vehicles belonging to local vigilantes were set ablaze by the hoodlums but no casualty was recorded.
He described the incident as an act of cowardice on the part of the arsonists who according to him, arrived the Secretariat in large numbers on motorcycles and a vehicle before they began shooting indiscriminately.
The strong resistance from the vigilante operatives and the quick response of the state police patrol team, led to the fleeing of the scene by the hoodlums after setting the four vehicles ablaze.
The deputy commissioner of police in charge of operations was said to have led a joint security team to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment with the aim of arresting the culprits.
