Hon. Mrs Obioma Okafor, the Director General, Imo State Consumer Protection Council has received an Award of Excellence as “The Most Active Government Appointee for MDA’s category” by Hope New and Electronic Media Centre, the organizers of the award.
Speaking during the award presentation, Hon. Mrs Nneamaka Okafor, the Special Adviser to Governor Hope Uzodimma on New and Electronic Media said, the Award was in recognition of Mrs Obioma’s dedication to service and numerous laudable achievements.
According to her, the Director General Imo CPC, defeated other appointees in a thoroughly and keenly contested online poll to emerge the winner, describing the DG as a visionary and goal oriented servant leader.
Hon. Nneamaka further revealed that the 2021 median edition of *Hope New And Electronic Media Public Service Award* was initiated to motivate and encourage the awardees and other political office holders towards putting in their best in service to the people and Government of Imo State. “Ma, Your contributions in promoting the success of this administration have not gone unnoticed. We, the staff of Hope New and Electronic Media centre, on behalf of Gov. Hope Uzodimma and Imo state government, commend and appreciate your efforts in ensuring adequate protection of consumers’ interest in the state”.
Responding, Hon. Mrs Obioma Okafor thanked the SA to the Governor on New and Electronic Media and her team for finding her worthy of the award, and promised not to disappoint them in her bid to work for the success of the 3R administration of Senator Hope Uzodimma and the overall wellness of the entire Imo citizens.
The DG showered encomium on the Governor of Imo state for making efforts to reposition Imo CPC for effective service delivery. Before now, majority of imolites are not aware of the general operations of CPC, despite the agency has existed for sixteen years in Imo State. “I want to really thank the Aka-oma n’achi Imo State, His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodimma for giving me the opportunity to serve the good people of imo State as the Director General CPC”. Frankly speaking, Senator Hope Uzodimma’s led administration from onset, recognised the need to protect imolites from hazardous and unwholesome products and that’s why immediately he assumed office, he took the bold step to revived and repositioned CPC. Today, any unbiased observer of events in imo State will attest to the fact that the narrative have changed in CPC Imo State.
Mrs Obioma stressed the need for a mandatory collaboration between CPC and Hope New and Electronic Media centre. It is instructive to note that media has an important role to play in creating the needed public enlightenment and awareness on the dangers of fake and adulterated products.
The Imo CPC boss, stated that the council under her regime has embarked on series of sensitization and awareness campaign to reachout to imolites to know their basic rights as consumers, also to know that there is an agency called CPC, established by law to protect them against any form of market abuse or infringement on their rights.
The DG Imo CPC also identified some policy priorities of the council to include the need to have 27 desk offices in the 27 local government Areas of the state to strengthen the existing complaint resolution mechanisms.
She equally revealed that the major threat to consumer’s life and genuine business development in our country is counterfeiting and adulteration, noting that CPC shall focus more on Consumer education, surveillance and enforcement, therefore, she enjoined Hope New and Electronic Media centre to partner with CPC to address this menace. “Let us join hands with the government of Dist. Senator Hope Uzodimma to save the lives of imolites who are dying as a result of consumption of unwholesome products.
The DG further emphasized the need to check ‘Best Before’ and ‘Expiration Dates’ on products before you buy or consume. We have a duty to furnish CPC with genuine and useful information to clamp down on fakers. We have introduced CPC ‘3R’ ”when you See, you Say and CPC will Sort it”.
Finally, I want to call on all and sundry to support the 3R government of Dist. Senator Hope Uzodimma in his bid to take Imo State to the next level of prosperity. The DG reiterated.
