Just In : Labour rejects Federal Govt’s fresh Minimum Wage offer
The Organised Labour have rejected the latest federal government’s minimum wage proposal
According to Channels Television, Organised Labour, including the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), has turned down the Nigerian Government’s fresh minimum wage offer. The government proposed a monthly minimum wage of N60,000, which was rejected by the labour unions.
Previously, Labour had proposed N615,000 as the new minimum wage but later revised it to N497,000 and then further down to N494,000. However, despite the adjustments, the latest proposal from the government was still unacceptable to the unions.
A member of the Tripartite Committee involved in the negotiations disclosed that both the Federal Government and the Organised Private Sector suggested the N60,000 monthly minimum wage, up from the N57,000 proposed last week during the resumed negotiations.
It’s worth noting that previous proposals from the government, ranging from N48,000 to N54,000, were also rejected by Organised Labour. With three days remaining until the May 31 deadline set by the labour unions, the Tripartite Committee has yet to reach an agreement on the new minimum wage.
