“Directors of Personnel Management are to take charge of the administration of the 16 local government areas of Kwara State until a new election is held in September.

“This effectively dissolves the Transition Implementation Committees earlier appointed to manage the councils pending new local government elections.

“This development comes a few days after the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission slated the next local council election for September 21, 2024,” the statement read.

In 2021, the state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, appointed TIC chairmen to run the local government administration in the state.

Recall that the chairman of the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC), Alhaji Okanla Baba, said that elections would be held across the 16 local government areas of the state on September 21, 2024.

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, on Wednesday, raised concerns about the conduct of local government elections in the country.

Yakubu described the LG elections as mere coronations of ruling party candidates, calling for significant reforms to ensure fair and credible elections.
