Sokoto Yoruba community lifts suspension on Sarikin Yorubawa, settles rift
The peace has finally prevailed in the raging crisis between the Yoruba community and the Yoruba Traditional Council in Sokoto State as both parties settle their rift.
The found peace has spurred the leadership of the Yoruba community to also announce the lifting of the suspension earlier placed on the Oba of Yoruba, Alhaji Abdulfatai Coker, and his council members.
Arewa PUNCH got to know about this latest initiative and development through a letter signed by the President General of the Yoruba community, Chief James Olorunfemi, a copy of which was made available to our correspondent in the state.
The letter which was titled: “Withdrawal of Suspension of Alhaji Abdulfatai Olayiwola Coker – Oba Yoruba Sokoto” read in parts, “Reference to the suspension letter dated 19/4/2024 to Alhaji Abdulfatai Coker and owing to the intervention of Yoruba Elders, Hajiya Maryam Suleiman (Special Adviser to the Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, and the State Security Service Sokoto State Command.
“The Yoruba Community Sokoto has resolved unequivocally to withdraw the suspension on Alhaji Abdulfatai Olayiwola Coker Oba Yoruba Sokoto and his Council with effect from this day – 7th May 2024.’’

“We therefore appeal for calm, mutual understanding and unity amongst all the sons and daughters of Yoruba Community Sokoto.
“Long reign our Kabiyesi. Long live the Yoruba Community, Sokoto, Long live Sokoto State. Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
When contacted over the development, the Sarikin Yorubawa, Alhaji Abdulfatai Coker, confirmed that their differences has been resolved, and the two parties have agreed to work together in the interest of the Yoruba sons and daughters in the state.
However, he disclosed that he has put everything that transpired behind him while assuring that he will continue to act as the father of all Yorubas living in the state.
