Just In : Labour Party officially announces its 2027 presidential candidate
The Labour Party has officially unveiled its choice for the 2027 presidential race, Mr. Peter Gregory Obi, the current leader of the party, has been selected as the party’s presidential candidate for the upcoming election, as revealed in a statement released after the party’s National Convention.
The decision, disclosed following deliberations at the convention held in Nnewi, Anambra State, on Wednesday, signals a strategic move by the party as it gears up for the forthcoming political contest.
The Communique issued post-convention highlighted Mr. Obi’s track record, both preceding and following the 2023 General Election, as a pivotal factor in his selection as the party’s presidential candidate.
Moreover, the Labour Party affirmed a right of first refusal for Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, should he opt to seek reelection under the party’s banner. This dual announcement underscores the party’s commitment to continuity and stability within its leadership ranks.
Signed by the re-elected National Chairman, Comrade Julius Abure, and National Secretary, Umar Faruk Ibrahim, the Communique emphasized the party’s endorsement of Mr. Obi’s candidacy, citing his leadership qualities and contributions to the party’s vision and objectives.
“The Convention in session based on the antecedents of the Presidential candidate before, during and after the 2023 General Election recommend that the 2027 Presidential ticket of the party be solely reserved for His Excellency, Mr. Peter Gregory Obi, the National leader of the party,” the statement read.
Furthermore, the Convention expressed confidence in the performance of Governor Alex Otti, extending its support by recommending the reservation of the 2027 Abia State Gubernatorial ticket for his candidacy.
