Following the assurance of Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, to return power to the people through the conduct of local government areas election, the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC), over the weekend, interfaced with Inter Party Advisory Committee, Imo State chapter, on how to have free, credible and fair poll.
The meeting which took place at ISIEC Office, along Orlu Road, Owerri, had in attendance all political parties chairmen of the state.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, the ISIEC Acting Operational Commissioner, Dr Adimelechi Henry, said the essence of the meeting was to brief the various political parties in the state of the commission’s readiness to conduct LGA election in March, 2022, noting that the election will be conducted freely, transparently, fairly.
Adimelechi added that government has given ISIEC the power to conduct the election, saying ISIEC will make sure Imo people will be happy after the election.
Speaking on manpower, Adimelachi noted that soon the commission will commerce recruitment of ad-hoc staff who will help in supplementing its existing staff while using the opportunity to assure all and sundry of a good level playing ground.
Thus, answering questions from newsmen, the Imo State Chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Hon John Iwuala, commended government for the development, urging it to do its best to conducting credible LGA election in the state, advising against electoral malpractice, mutilation of election results and massive rigging which he regretted had marred the process in the past.
In their own contributions, the Chairman of Zenith Party, Ichie Levi Eke and Social Democratic Party Chairman, Valentine Amafele, lauded Uzodimma on his decision to organize the local government council election in the state.
They stressed on the need for ISIEC to keep to its promise of making the election free, credible and fair, as people will be allowed to vote for their choices.
