In a historic meeting held on January 30, 2024, Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, the Southwest Speakers and Majority Leaders, gathered to deliberate on the region’s critical issues. The meeting, under the adept leadership of the Ekiti State Speaker, Rt Hon Aribasoye, included prominent figures such as Ondo State Speaker, Rt Hon Chief Oladiji Olamide, Osun State Speaker, Mr Adewale Egbedun, and Oyo State Speaker, Rt Hon Adebo Ogundoyin.
Among the distinguished attendees were Southwest Majority Leaders, chaired by Hon Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, Ondo State Majority Leader. Other notable figures included Oyo State Majority Leader, Hon. Sanjo Onaolapo, Ekiti State Majority Leader, Hon Tolu Ige, and Osun State Majority Leader, Hon Adewunmi Babajide.
The primary agenda of the meeting was to foster collaboration and synergy among Southwest legislators. Recognizing the importance of unity in achieving common goals, the leaders engaged in discussions to enhance regional cooperation and coordination, which Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde supported.
The attendees also addressed the pressing security challenges facing the Southwest. The leaders expressed their condolences to the Ekiti State government for the unfortunate loss of two traditional rulers to herders attacks. In light of these security concerns, the participants engaged in meaningful deliberations to explore proactive measures to safeguard the lives and property of the citizens.
Additionally, the meeting focused on strategies to bring more development and the dividends of democracy to the doorsteps of the people in the Southwest. The leaders emphasized the need for concerted efforts in promoting policies and initiatives that would uplift the socio-economic well-being of the region’s inhabitants.
