Just In ; Jarigbe renews fight against Ayade, asks EFCC to investigate former governor
Jarigbe Agom, Senator representing Cross River State Northern Senatorial District, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate former Cross River State Governor, Senator Ben Ayade, over alleged corruption during his tenure.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page on Wednesday, Senator Agom expressed dismay at Ayade’s purported lobbying for a ministerial appointment, questioning the ethics behind it.
He wrote, “Do we know how many lives we have lost to maladministration and deprivation of the people to satisfy other people’s quest for primitive acquisition?” Senator Agom went on to critique the state’s “food-on-the-table” program, labeling it a manipulative distraction from more pressing issues.
He raised concerns about the program diverting resources from essential projects, demanding transparency: “We compromised our future and development of the State for rice and beans. What was the percentage of the total income of the State spent on food on the table? It was a very negligible percentage. Where did the rest of the funds go to?”
Furthermore, the senator expressed worries about the state’s current financial situation and the alleged lack of resources for the new government, urging anti-graft agencies to address the litany of petitions before the EFCC.
Senator Agom’s statement has ignited a heated debate in Cross River State, with citizens taking to social media to voice their opinions. The call for an investigation has garnered support, while others rally in defense of the former governor’s record.
