Just In : Fleeing robbers ram into truck in Rivers, one d!es
The vehicle of a five-man armed robbery gang, who were on the run after an operation, collided with a truck at Ada George Road Nkpolu Oroworukwo in the Mile 3 axis of Diobu in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
The gang members were said to have robbed a shop along the Ada George/Chinda axis
An eyewitness who spoke on condition or anonymity said a private security guard attached to the warehouse where sealed engine oil is sold, raised the alarm which attracted passersby and the police.
The eyewitness said, “So the armed robbers were speeding off and on sighting a police patrol van that was chasing them, they tried to make a detour through Rumukokwu from Ada George Road when they rammed into a stationary truck leading to the death of one of them.”
A viral video of the incident seen by our correspondent shows a member of the gang behind the wheel lifeless, while two others lay critically injured on the floor and were apprehended by the police.
The source, however, said two of the gang members escaped.
The incident attracted residents and passersby who thronged to the scene to catch a glimpse of the suspects, with some of them describing the development as ”judgment day.”
When contacted, the spokesperson of the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident, saying the investigation is ongoing.
Iringe-Koko stated, “Yes I can confirm the incident. They were fleeing from a crime scene with their vehicle and rammed into a truck. They were taken to the hospital following their injuries.
“One of them was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty. The two other suspects are in critical condition and receiving treatment. Investigation is ongoing to arrest the other gang members that escaped to make them face justice.”
