A vibrant 2- member SENSITIZATION Team from National Agency For Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons (NAPTIP), Imo-State Command, led by Mr Ernest Ogbu the Commander, Wednesday, 30th June 2021, at Oru-West Legislative Council Hall, Mgbidi, Imo-State, Nigeria, held a SENSITIZATION Interface, with Critical Stakeholders of Oru-West LGA.
In his Welcome address, the IMC Chairman of Oru-West LGA, who also holds sway as the Imo-State Chairman of ALGON-Adm. Hon Chief Willie T C Okolieogwo FCIA “Ome Ka Odi Nma N’Oru” revealed that NAPTIP SENSITIZATION Tour will take place in the 27 LGAs of Imo-State, based on the directives from NAPTIP Abuja, however, it is kicked off in Oru-West Council as a Privilege.
The Imo-State Chairman of ALGON, Chief Willie Okolieogwo advised all Oru-West LGA People that were present, to listen attentively to the Lectures from the resource persons, as they exposed the evils perpetrated by Some Individuals, who derive joy in trafficking in Human Beings and Human Organs from Nigeria to Overseas, even as he mentioned that the evils are being practised also, within our Rural Areas, hence a need for positive Change.
Chief Willie Okolieogwo observed that the aim of the Trafficking is for selfish pecuniary gains.
The Oru-West LGA Chairman Chief Willie Okolieogwo urged Oru-West stakeholders in attendance, to convey the messages of the SENSITIZATION Team, to the various Communities, their Neighbors, friends and Family members, to enable all involved in such evil deeds, to Stop forthwith or face the legal consequences.
In his SENSITIZATION lectures, Mr Ernest Ogbu, NAPTIP Commander, Imo-State, showered overwhelming encomiums on IMC Chairman of Oru-West Council, Chief Willie Okolieogwo describing him as” Very Proactive, highly Articulate, humble, intelligent, result oriented and an Administrative genius for organizing the event within a shortest notice.
Mr Ernest Ogbu Stated that NAPTIP is a Federal Government Organ established by enabling 2003 Laws.
Mr Ernest Ogbu streamlined Traffic in Human Persons under 2 Categories– Internal and External Traffickings.
According to him, Internal Trafficking Strives more in the Rural Areas of our Communities and includes utilization of Underaged Children for Hawking, Prostitution, House helps and those girls hired in Baby Factories, but ending up with Pregnancies and later after delivery, their babies are sold by someone else who takes the financial gains.
Mr Ernest Ogbu confirmed that External Trafficking involves luring of Young Nigerians Overseas, promising them Greener Pastures, whereas most of these youths are forced into Prostitutions, Nannies, even some are killed and their body organs like the Kidneys, Hearts, Livers etc are chopped off, harvested and sold.
The NAPTIP Commander, Mr Ernest Ogbu added that NAPTIP’s Primary responsibility is the Prevention of ALL forms of Human Degradations, Exploitations and Deprivations through Coordinated utilization of the Nation’s Crime Prevention mechanism and Law Enforcement Agencies, to stamp out all forms of Human Trafficking, thereby liberate and uplift the Vulnerable Persons especially Women and Children.
In her follow up SENSITIZATION Lectures as the next resource person, Mrs Anne Nwabugwu- Chief Intelligence Officer of NAPTIP, elucidated “the 4 Ps” activities of NAPTIP in debarring Human Trafficking to include: Preventions, Protections, Prosecution and Partnership.
Mrs. Anne Nwabugwu urged People of Oru-West LGA, to be all ears in fishing out the Culprits of Human Trafficking and reporting them to security agencies.
She illustrated her lecture by showing her audience some graphic acts of some wicked individuals that left some children perpetually disfigured and handicapped.
In his Vote of thanks, Mr. Magnus Obike the Councillor Representing Nempi/ Eleh Ward at Oru-West Council applauded NAPTIP Commander-Mr. Ernest Ogbu and the Chief Intelligence Officer Mrs. Anne Nwabugwu for their apt concised Lectures and assured them that the messages will be disseminated in all the Autonomous Communities of Oru-West LGA.
Mr. Magnus Obike praised Oru-West Council IMC Chairman Chief Willie Okolieogwo for putting excellent finishings in the organization of the event.
Many Dignitaries graced the Event including Oru-West Council DAGS, Mrs. A.U Agukwe, the Treasurer Mr Chuks Ucheghara, HRH Eze A.C. Obi- Chairman Oru-West Traditional Instructions and Community Policing, HRH Eze Ibenacho of Aji Autonomous Community, HRH Eze Onyeka Ononuju of Ozara Autonomous Community, HRH Eze Ihekaibeya of Eleh AutonomousCommunity, and HRH Eze Amatom Obinyere of Etiti Mgbidi Autonomous Community, an Elderstateman- Nze James Okike and some Security Agencies of the local government.
Also in attendance were all the IMC Members, All the Special Advisers to Oru-West Council Chairman, and the Oru-West LGA Orientation Officer Chief Charles Madueke who moderated the event.
Equally present, were many President – Generals of Towns Unions of the local government area, their Women and Youth Leaders and other invited Leaders and Stakeholders.
