She caught me stealing – Teenage Boy provides reasons why he killed Mother’s benefactor
Almost two weeks after one Mubarak Akadiru, was arrested by police operatives in Arigidi Akoko area of Ondo State for killing his mother’s benefactor, the teenager explained why he committed the crime.
He made the confession recently when he was arraigned before the Akure Magistrate Court over the alleged murder of the 62-year-old grandmother and former head teacher, Mrs Sidikat Adamolekun.
It was gathered that Akadiru’s mother was a housemaid to the deceased before the incident happened.
But while making his confession at the court, the defendant, who was 18 at the time, said that he repeatedly beat the deceased’s skull with a wooden stool when she caught him while attempting to steal her phone.
He said, “As usual, I went to the house to work and I later came back to steal her Samsung phone. “Unfortunately, the deceased caught me after I’d stolen the phone.”
Simon Wada, a police prosecutor, told the court that the defendant committed the crime on November 14, 2023, at 11:30 am, at Simiileolowa Quarters in Arigidi Akoko.
Wada said the defendant allegedly killed the deceased by striking her on the head with a wooden stool while stealing her Android Samsung phone worth N66,000.
According to the prosecution, the offence violates Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
Magistrate Damilola Sekoni granted the remand application and ordered that the accused be confined at the Olokuta Correctional Centre until the conclusion of the DPP’s advice.
Sekoni then adjourned the case to March 15, 2024, for further consideration.
