An eight-year-old boy, Akinduyo Pamilerin, on Thursday, donated N1,120 to the Kwara State Technical Committee on COVID-19.
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor and Spokesman of the Technical Committee on COVID-19, Rafiu Ajakaye, confirmed that the pupil made a donation to the state government.
He said officials were amazed when the boy was brought to them and his intention was made known.
“It is true. He donated his savings of N1,120 to the state government’s anti-COVID-19 campaign. He was brought here by his mother. He told his parents that he wanted to donate and they supported him. He even submitted a handwritten letter alongside his donation,” Ajakaiye told confirmed on the telephone.
Making the donation to the Chairman of the Technical Committee, Mr. Kayode Alabi, Pamilerin was quoted as saying that his desire to donate the cash was to assist in curbing the spread of the pandemic in the state.
Pamilerin told the officials that he added his personal savings to the money given to him by his father, a school teacher, to make the donation a reality.
“He told us that his desire was to see a society free of the pandemic. The government is definitely impressed by this rare show of altruism, and confident of Pamilerin becoming a leader of his generation,” he added.
Alabi, who doubles as the Deputy Governor of the state, thanked Pamilerin and assured him that his letter would be delivered to Governor AbdulRahaman Abdulrazaq.
