Just In : Labour Party Loses Out As Former Minister Becomes Senate Minority Leader (PHOTO)
Abba Moro, the legislator representing Benue South, has been appointed as the new Minority Leader of the Senate.
The announcement was made by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during the plenary session on Tuesday.
Moro, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), takes over the position from Sen. Simon Nwadkwon, who represented Plateau North under the PDP but was removed by the court on October 23.
However, a commotion erupted in the upper chamber when Sen. Osita Ngwu (Enugu West/PDP) was named Senate Minority Whip, replacing Sen. Darlington Nwokwocha of the Labour Party (LP).
Sen. Okechukwu Ezea from Enugu North objected to the nomination, a sentiment supported by Sen. Tony Nwoye of the LP.
They argued against ceding three minority leadership positions to the PDP, leaving the Labour Party unrepresented in the Senate leadership.
Following a heated debate, the Senate President upheld the majority decision, which favored the PDP for the position of Senate Minority Whip.
