Just In : Atiku Suffers Fresh Blow As Senator, PDP Chieftains, Others Dump Party (DETAILS)
Several prominent figures of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, including Senator Obinna Ogba, who represented the Ebonyi central zone from 2015 to 2023, and former House of Representatives member, Chief Livinus Makwa, have officially resigned from the party.
Additionally, members of the state working committee, including James Alaka (the organizing Secretary of the party), Mrs. Joy Igwe (Ex-Officio), and Uchenna Nwafor (Zonal Auditor South East), among others, have also defected from the party.
Six PDP local government Chairmen, including Agbom Friday of Ezza South, Nwofe Philip of Izzi, Nwobasi Ude Chizoba of Ohaozara, Chukwu Micheal Ivo, Ifere Sunday Bright of Ikwo, and Ndukwe Orji Okam Edda, have likewise submitted their resignation letters to the party.
These high-ranking PDP members tendered their resignations on Sunday, citing personal reasons for their departure. As of the time of this report, none of them have announced which political party they intend to join.
Addressing journalists in Abakaliki, Senator Ogba, flanked by other PDP leaders, read a resignation letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Nkalagu Ward in his Ishielu local government area. He expressed gratitude to the party and its leaders at all levels, from ward to National, but indicated that it was time for him to leave the party.
The resignation reads “sir, this is to officially communicate to you of my resignation as a member of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This will serve as an official communication to the party from Ward, LGA, State, Zonal and National level through your office.
“This decision is personal. As an individual, I have made my modest contribution by working for the growth and development of PDP from ward to National level since its creation in August 1998 at Sharaton Hotel Abuja.
“PDP on the other hand as a political party and electoral platform has contributed positively towards the growth of my political fortunes and I will forever remain grateful to the party and her leaders from ward, LGA, state, zonal to National level, but it is time to quit. On my future Political plans and arrangements, this will be properly communicated after due consultation with my immediate family, political family and associates”.
During the press conference held in Abakaliki, all other party officials who have left the PDP also presented their resignation letters to journalists.
Furthermore, the PDP Youth leader from Ivo LGA, Ukah Samuel Aroh, has publicly declared his defection from the party.
Similarly, Hon. Chukwu Cornelius (Oriokata), who vied for the Chairmanship position under the PDP in the recent local government election, along with 11 candidates for councillorship in the same local government, have formally announced their departure from the PDP.
Additionally, the forum representing former PDP Councillors in the area, conveyed through their spokesperson Hon. Justice Uka, has officially resigned from the PDP.
