Akoko -born politician and front line aspirant for Akoko-North East/North-West Federal Constituency’s By-election, Hon. Abiye Ademoyegun, has felicitated girl children across the globe on the occasion of the 2023 International Day of Girl Child.
She also commended the First Lady of Ondo state, Chief Betty Akeredolu, for the efforts she is making in promoting and empowering the girl child in the country.
Ademoyegun who gave expression to this while interacting with press men on Wednesday in a telephone chat, described the First Lady as a god-sent to Nigerian girls, given the way she has radically been empowering them and nurturing them to challenge gender inequality.
According to her, ” Girl children need our collective support so that they can do well in the various aspects of life and achieve comparable feats. We must come together to play our roles.
“What is happening in Ondo State through the Bemore Empowered Girls’Foundation, initiative of the First Lady, Chief Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, is an example of what we all need to do to encourage girl children. It is on record that over 3000 girls have benefited from the very impactful initiative. This is simply massive and deserving of huge plaudits”
Hon Abiye however implored parents to place the welfare of the girl child on the front burner, saying: “I want to appeal to parents to always ensure that the girl child is given a sense of belonging on the home front; we should cease to be discriminatory on gender ground in the way we raise our children.
