REVEALED – What Akpabio Told Senators As Senate Resumed Plenary Amid Plot To Remove Him As President
On Tuesday, September 26, the Senate reconvened for plenary after its six-week annual recess. Senate President Godswill Akpabio led the principal officers into the chamber around 11:40 a.m. and subsequently conducted the opening prayers.
Akpabio extended a warm welcome to the senators, urging them to collaborate effectively to propel the 10th Senate in advancing the nation.
He emphasized that despite differing opinions, their collective goal is to serve the welfare of their constituents and the nation as a whole. Akpabio appealed to any disgruntled lawmakers to put aside their differences and work together under his leadership.
He stressed that the progress the country requires can only be achieved through unity, saying, “I welcome you from vacation and I urge for the spirit of cooperation and unity among us. It is through such discussions that we will achieve the best outcomes for all Nigerians. Be reminded that though our opinions may differ, our common purpose is about the welfare of our constituents. In the coming days and weeks, we will address pressing issues, debating, legislating, and striving to forge common grounds to move our nation forward…”
Following this, the Senate went into an executive session for further deliberations.
A glance at the Order Paper for the day revealed that the screening and confirmation of Olayemi Cardoso for the position of Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria topped the agenda. It also indicated that four deputy governors of the CBN would undergo screening and confirmation for appointment.
Additionally, the red chamber planned to conduct a committee-of-the-whole session to review and confirm the appointments of four new deputy governors. The CBN’s deputy governor designates include Emem Nnana Usoro, Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Philip Ikeazor, and Bala M. Bello.
