Instant Judgement As Man Electrocuted While Attempting To Steal Transformer Cables
In the early hours of Friday, an unidentified man was tragically electrocuted while attempting to steal transformer cables within the premises of the Niger State Printing Press in Minna.
The lifeless body of the man was discovered by some staff members of the printing press, hanging on the transformer, on Friday morning.
Aminu Ubandoma, the Head of the Legal Unit of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), confirmed the incident
He noted that the company had been receiving numerous reports of transformer vandalism and assured that they were actively cooperating with security agencies, particularly the police, to curtail the incidence of such vandalism to the lowest possible level.
DSP Wasiu Abiodun, the spokesperson for the Niger Police Command, also confirmed the incident. He reported that around 11:00 a.m. on Friday, an incident involving suspected electrocution and vandalism was reported. The incident took place in the vicinity of the old secretariat area on the printing press premises, where the body of an unidentified adult male was discovered near a transformer, along with a cable cutter and some vandalized cables.
It is strongly suspected that the individual was electrocuted in the process. Abiodun mentioned that the body was taken to the General Hospital in Minna by the Morris patrol team, and unfortunately, the individual was confirmed deceased at the hospital. Efforts are currently underway to locate the deceased’s next of kin, as the incident remains under investigation in collaboration with the AEDC.
