This information was conveyed through a statement by the police spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Monday. The statement acknowledged that the behavior of police officers at these checkpoints needs to be reevaluated.

Adejobi revealed this while announcing the scheduled visits of the Acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to all states, which commenced on Monday.

ā€œEgbetokunā€™s Tours of Oyo and Lagos Focus on Professionalism and Quality Service Delivery. Promotes Community Policing Initiatives.

The tour begins today, Monday, August 21.

ā€œWe intend to visit all states, often traveling by road. Our purpose is to assess road conditions and consider modifications to road operations in Nigeria.

ā€œWhile we currently recognize the necessity of maintaining checkpoints on highways, we must revise these operations and address any misconduct exhibited by personnel on duty.ā€

He explained that surprise inspections will be conducted in various areas, covering a wide range including border regions.

Furthermore, he mentioned that other relevant security agencies, notably the Nigerian Customs Service and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), will be involved in the tour.
