Just In :Obi Reacts To Reports Of Talks With Atiku, Kwankwaso
Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, appeared to respond on Monday to reports that he was engaged in discussions with Atiku Abubakar and Rabiu Kwankwaso regarding a potential coalition to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) for power.
Speaking at a large rally in Edo State ahead of the local government elections in the region, Obi reassured party supporters of his unwavering commitment to the Labour Party.
Addressing the hundreds of party followers, Obi dismissed some of the rumors circulating and emphasized the party’s determination to grow stronger and create a better Nigeria.
He received enthusiastic cheers from the crowd as he expressed the party’s vision of transitioning Nigeria from a consumption-based economy to a production-driven one.
This development comes less than half a year after the February 25 presidential election, where Obi secured the third position, trailing behind President Bola Tinubu of the APC (who emerged as the winner) and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who came in second.
According to the final declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) landed in fourth place.
Both Atiku and Obi have legally challenged the results declared by INEC, with the tribunal currently reviewing the suits. The parties involved have presented their arguments and submitted their final written statements.
On Monday, a report surfaced suggesting that Atiku, Obi, and Kwankwaso were engaged in discussions about potentially forming a coalition to challenge the APC in the 2027 elections, assuming a favorable judgement for the ruling party.
The report claimed that the trio was awaiting the outcome of the election petitions in court to determine their next steps.
At the rally, the former governor of Anambra State directed his remarks towards Labour Party candidates participating in the Edo local government elections, urging them to uphold their campaign promises if elected.
He stressed that there was no room for empty pledges, emphasizing the nation’s desire for concrete actions rather than false assurances.
